Position Summary

The Cloud Operations team provides 24x7x365 support for all Syniti SaaS & Hosting customers globally.  This business unit is responsible for the day-to-day management and support of the cloud operations environment including the uptime, performance and high availability of all customer supporting systems inside of the SaaS & Hosted environments.  The SaaS & hosted ecosystem is comprised of multi-tiered applications, microservice architectures, containers & virtual servers as well as large & complex multi-terabyte SQL database systems.   

 

The SRE Systems Monitoring Specialist will be focused on the telemetry and log management process for the complete private/public cloud infrastructure including windows, linux, containers, Kubernetes and microservice application exporters as well as any AWS specific infrastructure in both public cloud and private cloud environments.  This responsibility includes the automation & orchestration of telemetry and log management tasks within business workstreams and value streams in pursuit of delivering SaaS & Hosted customer delivery across cloud operations.

 

The ultimate objective will be to minimize toil as much as possible through automated solutions for the day-to-day maintenance, upkeep and operations control tasks needed for telemetry and log management across the cloud operations environment, allowing the engineer to focus his efforts on improving the performance of the existing platform and contributing to the design and architecture of new infrastructure inside the SaaS ecosystem.

 

This resource should have the skillsets of both a principal systems monitoring & log management engineer and a junior to mid-level software developer. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop orchestration and automation for all telemetry & log management across the Syniti cloud operations SaaS & Hosted environments.
  • Codevelop the automation & orchestration framework including establishing design patterns related to the CMDB, config management, password management and other key integrations from the ground up with other SREs
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for the automation and orchestration of the SaaS & Hosted cloud operations environment
  • Continuous development of telemetry & log management architecture & automation including:
    • Contributing to telemetry and log mgmt. design of new microservices, databases and other services with the product development team
    • Establishing a framework for enhanced monitoring of the applications to the feature level and incorporating the framework into CI/CD and automation development processes
  • Continuous development of systems self-healing automation in order to reduce toil
  • Partake in a rotation providing incident and request handling support, identifying improvement opportunities where automation or rearchitecting of solutions can improve overall outcomes and reduce toil.
  • Will serve as technical lead for telemetry & log management related to all services, microservices and systems across Syniti’s private and public cloud environments
  • Responsible for training SRE team members, project engineers, technical support staff and application development staff to better utilize the telemetry and log management infrastructure

Technical Skills & Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in job specific skills.
  • 8+ years of experience in writing automation scripts in python or powershell to solve technical and business problems in IT operations.
  • 8+ years of experience with monitoring platforms with a focus on Prometheus or similar pull based systems using open frameworks for developing and expanding telemetry datasets
  • 6+ years of experience in log management using Splunk, ELK or a similar solution
  • 4+ years of experience in orchestrating automation for cloud operations or managed services environments building runbooks that align with work streams and value streams
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
