The ROLE

The Cloud Operations team provides 24x7x365 support for all Syniti SaaS & Hosting customers globally.  This business unit is responsible for the day-to-day management and support of the cloud operations environment including the uptime, performance and high availability of all customers supporting systems inside of the SaaS & Hosted environments.  The SaaS & hosted ecosystem is comprised of multi-tiered applications, microservice architectures, containers & virtual servers as well as large & complex multi-terabyte SQL database systems.   

 

The SRE will be focused on the orchestration and automation of core AWS components, including the lifecycle management processes of the same.  Experience with Kubernetes and containers as well as Linux is required. 

 

This SRE will seek to create a secure, high performance and highly available environment in AWS through automation and orchestration that can be replicated in other regions around the globe as needed.  One of the main objectives will be to construct this environment in a way that is sensitive to cost and implement controls to effectively minimize cost in AWS wherever possible based on Syniti’s requirements.

 

This resource should have the skillsets of both a Principal AWS Cloud Systems Engineer and a junior to mid-level software developer. 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Develop orchestration and automation for AWS environment builds that can be replicated to other regions through automation while minimizing costs in support of the Syniti cloud operations SaaS & Hosted environments.
  • Codevelop the automation & orchestration framework including establishing design patterns related to HPA, product maintenance, config management, password management and other key integrations with other SREs.
  • Codevelop orchestration and automation for the lifecycle management of linux systems, Kubernetes & containers in support of the Syniti cloud operations SaaS & Hosted environments.
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for the automation and orchestration of the SaaS & Hosted cloud operations environment.
  • Provide AWS architecture, guidance, and oversight to the project engineering and support teams.
  • Continuous development of systems self-healing automation to reduce toil.
  • Partake in a rotation providing incident and request handling support, identifying improvement opportunities where automation or rearchitecting of solutions can improve overall outcomes and reduce toil.
  • Will serve as an AWS technical lead on major projects inside of hybrid cloud environments.
  • Responsible for training SRE team members, project engineers, technical support staff and application development staff to understand and work within the defined AWS architecture and standards being implemented.

  • 8+ years of experience in writing automation scripts in bash, python, or powershell to solve technical and business problems in IT operations.
  • 6+ years of experience architecting and engineering secure, high performance and highly available environments in AWS.
  • 4+ years of experience in orchestrating automation of AWS environments building runbooks that align with business work streams and value streams.
  • 1+ year of experience automation against AWS APIs for system builds, backups and other system management interactions.
  • 1+ year of experience in container management and orchestration with kubernetes.
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
